Blossom Bag-2 Winners!

Well, I just finished my Blossom bag & I did not want to post until it was finished!  It was a challenge and I enjoyed making it.  I will post pictures in a separate post.

 

There are not many bags this month, I am glad to see some there, that is for sure.

Style Stitches Monthly Bag Challenge 2011- August's Bag

I just realized that I already had this post ready to go without my fabric pictures, just sitting in "drafts."  Lame.

 

Let's gear up for August's bag...it's the Fringed Hobo Bag.  I am still on the fence about the fringe, I am considering piping.

I honestly thought that I would have my bag done by now.  I know, it's just August 2nd, but I made July's bag in June sometime.

 

We will be making the FRINGED HOBO BAG from Chapter 8.  

Fabrics for FRINGED HOBO BAG depend on which size bag that you are making, I suggest reading the finished sizes to determine what is best for you.

 

 Here are my fabrics:

ADDITIONAL SUPPLIES:

We will need some yards of 20" wide FUSIBLE woven interfacing and FUSIBLE FLEECE.  The testers in the book used Shape Flex by Pellon SF-101, just make sure that it is fusible and intended for light to mid-weight fabrics.  I am in love with SF 101, that stuff is an interfacer's dream!

 

You can purchase interfacing at your local shop that sells fabric.  

Are you new to using interfacing?  Kathy Mack at Pink Chalk has a helpful guide to fusible interfacing that you may enjoy.

 

Style Stitchers, this is what we need to do for August:

• Select/order fabric and notions

• Cut out pattern pieces for FRINGED HOBO BAG
• Make bag following instructions from book

Key Keeper Coin Purse--Completed and 2 Winners!

This month, we completed the Key Keeper Coin Purse and I must say, it was the fastest one with a zipper to complete!  It's a cute little bag to hold some tiny items.  It is a popular item at our home--as soon as I finished it, my daughter grabbed it and put some toys in it!  I allowed it for 2 days, then, I confiscated back my bag.

There were almost 20 participants this month, I thought that there would be more because the bag is so small.

I'm recovered from no sleep after the holiday and finally ready to do some computing.

We will be making the KEY KEEPER COIN PURSE from Chapter 7.  

Fabrics for KEY KEEPER COIN PURSE---

Yardage requirements are very small for this bag, I would just say scraps or fat quarters, even for the interfacing.

Teardrop Bag--Completed and 2 Winners!

I'm going to hurry through this post today, it is Independence Day weekend here in the U.S. and I want to hang out with family, I think.

The Teardrop bag was quite easy to make, I recommend you all try it if you have the book, it is very roomy inside as well.  May I also suggest saving your scraps to make next month's bag.

Style Stitches Monthly Bag Challenge 2011- June's Bag

Goodness, it's a week into June!!  Well, you seasoned Style Stitchers know what to do, but, I'll go over it because I want to do it each month!  Can you believe that we are on out sixth bag for the year?  Every bag has been put to good use.

We will be making the TEARDROP BAG from Chapter 6.  

Fabrics for TEARDROP BAG---

Yardage requirements are the same for both size bags, please refer to the finished sizes to decide what is best for you, I am making the large bag.

You will need one print for exterior main panels:  3/8 yard

5/8 yd of a coordinating solid/print for the exterior bands, handles, and handle extensions

1/2 yd of a second print for lining

 Here are my fabrics:

ADDITIONAL SUPPLIES:

Perfectly Pleated Clutch--Completed and 2 Winners

I am in disbelief that May is gone, really, it's already summer break here!  This is the second month that I completed my bag before the middle of the month, which really surprises me, I have many projects going on at once.  I am still carrying my bag for now and smile a little every time that I look at it.  Yes, I sure do.

There was a lot of variation with the pleated clutch, some had no stitches across the pleats, some had no pleats at all, and some had long tails for handles!

I loved seeing how pretty much every bag had a floral embellishment on it, I had intended for mine to go on my dress, but I wore a cardigan with it's own decor, but that rosette took around an hour to make by hand and it was not going to go unused!

If you want to put a big flower in something, make it a purse, not a baby's head...

 

This is a great idea--piece your fabrics before starting, you will not need so much of one fabric by doing so.

I know that some of the stitchers were dreading the pleats and there were a lot of them, but once you get going on them, they are not bad at all.  I've done a few dresses for my daughter with less pleats but much longer in length--these were easy!  Congratulations on making your bag!

Perfectly Pleated Clutch!

Well, my pleated clutch is done!  This is the size medium and I could not be more pleased with the results.  After pleating the panels, it sews very fast and I just winged it on the pleats, I stopped measuring after the second pleat--it may be obvious...

 

It's roomy inside, I may start using it everyday for a little while.

For anyone making the bag:  

After finishing my bag, I decided that the handle should be sewn to the band for stability--it sagged a little after putting things inside.  I sewed the handle to the band and my problem is no more!

So, I made this to match my clutch:  

we attended a wedding this weekend and I thought that I would have a new dress for the event.  Oh yes, the lining of my bag is the same print of my dress.  

The dress pattern is the Anna Tunic by Amy Butler.  I used a voile for the dress and the lining and it feels oh so great.  It was not very warm this weekend so, I had to wear a cardigan and cover the back.  That's okay, though, I'll wear it at least once more!

 

I wanted to do a sew-a-long for this bag, but, since I was on a strict schedule, I did not have time to take pics. I am considering whipping up another to take photos and post, what do you all think?
